Han Zheng Meets with Foreign Guests

On October 18, 2023, Vice President Han Zheng met in Beijing with General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party Central Committee and Lao President Thongloun Sisoulith who is in China to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and pay a working visit to China.

Han Zheng said that under the strategic guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Thongloun Sisoulith, the building of a China-Laos community with a shared future has yielded fruitful results, and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation has been in the front rank. China is ready to work with Laos to strengthen strategic communication, deepen practical cooperation, consolidate friendship, and join hands in building a high-standard, high-quality, and high-level China-Laos community with a shared future.

Thongloun Sisoulith extended warm congratulations on the complete success of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and said that Belt and Road cooperation has made important contributions to the global economy and has brought important changes to the Lao economy and people's livelihood. Laos speaks highly of eight major steps announced by General Secretary Xi Jinping to support the joint pursuit of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation. Laos will work with China to deepen the cooperation and make solid progress in building a Laos-China community with a shared future.

On the same day, Han Zheng met in Beijing with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres.

Han Zheng said that the keynote speech made by President Xi Jinping at the opening ceremony of the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation systematically expounded the future-oriented vision of Belt and Road cooperation. The remarks made by Secretary-General at the opening ceremony reflected his support for the Belt and Road cooperation, and China appreciates that. China, as a staunch supporter of and active contributor to the cause of the United Nations, is ready to strengthen the alignment between the Belt and Road cooperation, the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, and the United Nations agenda, foster more practical results, and promote the building of a human community with a shared future.

António Guterres extended congratulations on the successful opening of the Forum, and said that the keynote speech made by President Xi Jinping is impressive, Belt and Road cooperation is an important example of international development cooperation and is closely intertwined with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and the United Nations is ready to strengthen cooperation with China to promote world peace and development.
