On the morning of October 20, 2023, President Xi Jinping met with President of Brazil's Chamber of Deputies Arthur Lira at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that during President Lula da Silva’s successful state visit to China this spring, they had a fruitful meeting and reached important common understandings on steering China-Brazil relations into a new era. China and Brazil are respectively the largest developing countries in the eastern and western hemispheres and emerging major countries with global influence. In the face of a world of change and disorder, the two sides should firmly support and echo each other. Xi noted that the Belt and Road Initiative is highly compatible with Brazil's re-industrialization policy and the new version of the "Accelerated Growth Plan", and can be synergized to boost the modernization drive of the two countries. China supports Brazil's hosting of the G20 Leaders' Summit and the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change next year, and is ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Brazil.

Xi Jinping emphasized that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Brazil strategic partnership, and next year the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two sides. Building on past achievements, China-Brazil relations have much more to accomplish. Xi noted that the Brazilian Congress is an important driving force behind the development of China-Brazil relations, expressed the hope that President Lira and members of the Congress will actively promote China-Brazil exchanges and cooperation and contribute to the greater development of China-Brazil relations.

Lira said it is a great honor for him to lead a delegation to China for the first time in the capacity of President of Brazil's Chamber of Deputies, and he would like to congratulate China on successfully hosting the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation. He noted that Brazil-China relations are in a good shape, and cooperation with China has vigorously promoted Brazil's economic and social development and increased Brazil's employment and production capacity. China's success is of great significance to the world, and China has always been an important partner of Brazil in development. Brazil hopes to further synergize development strategies of the two countries, and the Brazilian Congress stands ready to step up exchanges with China’s National People's Congress, and take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations next year as an opportunity to promote Brazil-China relations to a new height. Lira remarked that as the rotating president of the G20 next year, Brazil will step up communication and collaboration with China, and play its due role. He looks forward to welcoming President Xi Jinping's visit to Brazil on that occasion.

Cai Qi and Wang Yi attended the meeting.
